You've been sent to a Mediterranean island to investigate a worsening viral outbreak. Unfortunately, things don't start out too well for you in Vorax — your helicopter crashes, you're in the middle of nowhere, and you have almost no supplies.
Vorax is a first-person survival crafting game with strong horror elements. As you might expect, you'll need to manage your health, hunger, and thirst while you're exploring the island. Stress is a factor, too; the horrors you'll experience can certainly have an effect on you.
Unfortunately, staying alive won't be quite so easy. Your only option for defensible shelter is to barricade existing buildings on the island. These buildings can be a reprieve from the horrors roaming the land, but you'll have to make sure to barricade any entrances and have an escape route if you get overrun. Nighttime can be dangerous, especially if you foolishly leave the lights on.
Simply put, Vorax doesn't hold your hand. There is no map and no quest markers to help you out at the start of the game; you'll need to thoroughly investigate an area (and possibly solve a few puzzles) to figure out what you should do next. All the while, you'll be in danger of being attacked by infected creatures or running out of supplies.
Even the HUD can be a challenge; in Vorax, your in-game interface is provided by a battery-powered visor on your helmet. Once that battery dies, you won't have ready access to your health, survival stats, ammo count, or compass. This is a game that is all about managing your resources carefully, lest you run out at the worst possible time.
Vorax is not for the impatient or the faint of heart, but it's sure to provide you with a dark, atmospheric game full of challenges for the curious gamer who is willing to test their abilities — if you're brave enough to try.
