Frontier Developments has announced Planet Coaster 2, a followup to the successful theme park sim Planet Coaster. It's coming to PC and current-gen consoles in fall.
Per an official announcement, Planet Coaster 2 will build upon the foundation created by the first game, adding the ability to create water park features, customizable rides, and a new Franchise mode that allows you to construct a network of parks.
You'll also be able to visit other players' parks, race them for supremacy on the Franchise mode's leaderboard, and create a park together in a shared Sandbox world. What's more, it sounds like that feature will support crossplay, so you can play with your friends on any platform.
The sequel's new water park features include water coasters, flumes, and wave pools, and you can micromanage to the kind of level you'd expect from a Frontier game, adding changing rooms, lifeguards, and more.
If you don't like the look of a particular water coaster, you can customize it with your own events; you can add elements like water jets, different sounds, and animatronics to your park rides, as well as at various points throughout the rest of your park.
Planet Coaster 2 will also feature "enhanced building and pathing tools" to make it easier to create your park, as well as other gameplay improvements and tweaks. You can check out the announcement trailer for Planet Coaster 2 right here.
Planet Coaster 2 joins a genre in which it doesn't have a huge amount of competition.
Although the Rollercoaster Tycoon franchise still technically exists, it's been a while since the last mainline installment, and Bandai Namco's Park Beyond launched to a middling reception, despite initially looking pretty promising.
In any case, Planet Coaster 2 launches sometime later this year. We'll get our first look at gameplay on July 31st, so check back then for more info.
