Last October Wizards of the Coast welcomed players into the multiverse with the release of Planescape: Adventures In The Multiverse. Wizkids has now released a line of miniatures highlighting the key characters, different creatures that call the Outlands their home, and some larger-than-life creatures to add to your adventure.
Starting out from Sigil with no memories of their previous lives players explore the city, Outlands, and each of the different gate cities. This means that characters that are included in this set will be a little bit more out there than you would expect.
Wizkids Planescape: Adventures In The Multiverse Character Miniatures
Included in the Planescape: Adventures In The Multiverse Character Miniatures set is the following NPCs and Monsters:
- Fell
- Morte
- Musteval
- Shemeshka
- Planar Philosopher
- Transcendent Order Conduit
- Transcendent Order Instinct
- Mercykiller Bloodhound
This collection contains some key characters like Morte and Shemeshka as well as generic representatives of the world in a Planar Philosopher and Sigil Faction.
At first, I was somewhat disappointed that there weren't many main characters included, but upon reviewing the adventure there aren't that many outside of the party and Shemeska that are used in a combat scenario.
Planescape Blind Boxes
The release of the Planescape Icons of the Realms also comes with their own Blind Boxes. These boxes contain one large and two small miniatures, all of creatures relevant to the Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse campaign.
In our eight Planescape Blind Boxes we got to see all kinds of strange creatures like the Kelubar Demodand, Razorvine Blight, and the terrifying Baernaloth.
We also received a number of representatives of the different gate towns such as the Bariaur Wanderer, Shemeshka's Bodyguard, and even a few floating skulls.
What I was most impressed with was the sheer number of constructs, specifically Modrons that are part of this collection. With 42 different minis available I was able to gather eight different types of Modrons from the small Monodrone all the way up to the Hexton
That all being said with these being available in blind boxes there's really no way to be able to tell what you'll get. It might be the exact miniature that you're after to craft the ultimate encounter, or you could get a slot machine modron.
Planescape Whirlwyrm
One of the major moments in the campaign is when the party visits Ysgard and are ambushed by two Whirlwyrms (that use the Giant Crocodile stat block).
This is a major setpiece battle that will occur at about the halfway point and to have a miniature for it to throw down on the table while your party is in the middle of a harsh sea-faring adventure.
This powerful sea serpent hides its true size with just its head, a portion of it's body, and tail emerging from roiling waves. It's size makes each key element from the pointed teeth in it's mouth to the patterning of greens on it's tail fins stand out beautifully.
Planescape Adult Time Dragon
Throughout this adventure the party will also have a number of encounters with Renesnuprah, the Time Dragon. Being a Time Dragon they'll meet this creature throughout various stages of it's life culminating in the gift of a scale that will let the party summon this Adult Time Dragon for 10 minutes.
This miniature is absolutely gorgeous. A proud crown of white into purple gives the dragon itself a silhouette of an hourglass-like the one it stands on. Even though it's an adult the length of it's whiskers give a sense of timelessness.
A neat effect that this miniature also has is a shimmering glow along the scales of it's wings. Light shifting and refracting as you reposition this dragon on your table.
This is a rare case where one of these terrifying minis isn't at the DMs discretion to play but is instead something that the players can choose to play making it a very fun opportunity.
Wizkids Dungeons & Dragons Planescape, Whirlwyrm, and Adult Time Dragon Minis | Final Thoughts
There's a lot of really good stuff here whether you're hunting down specific miniatures or wanting a large set piece for your players to engage with. The Blind Boxes did have good range of humanoid that you'll find in town and creatures from the different gate towns but for someone after Modrons here is going to be the best place.
The Whirlwyrm and Adult Time Dragon are both spectacular pieces, the work done on the Dragon especially will make it a hit at any table. There's that added benefit too that this is a friendly summon for the party that will likely be a core part of their memory for the campaign.
