Shiro Games has announced the release date for the unexpectedly cozy upcoming Wartales DLC The Tavern Opens!, and it's not too far away at all.
Per an official announcement on the tactical RPG's Steam page, the new Wartales DLC, which lets you manage your very own tavern, opens for business on April 18th, which is just over a week away at time of writing.
Where previous Wartales DLC packs and updates have added new regions, combat encounters, and gameplay features like fast travel, The Tavern Opens! has a decidedly more low-key focus.
The DLC sees Wartales taking a "management and simulation" direction, as Shiro tells it. You'll be managing your very own tavern, seeing to the needs of its clientele, and making sure that your tavern is the finest in the land.
To that end, you'll be overseeing features like decor, employee hiring and firing, and even menu selection. Who said that mercenaries can't be hands-on when it comes to hospitality?
Shiro says that running your tavern successfully will allow you to amass "wealth and prestige for your troop", though, so it sounds like tavern management will have a positive effect on the main Wartales campaign as well.
Of course, your tavern isn't the only one in the land; you'll have to keep a close eye on your competitors, too, whether that be through simply gaining enough popularity to outshine them or by more underhanded methods.
Wartales can be a pretty gritty and dark experience, and so it'll be nice to kick back and do something a little more cozy for a while, even if you will eventually have to get back to murder and intrigue and all the other scary stuff.
