This year, Games Workshop released Warhammer 40k 10th Edition. The newest edition of the grimdark sci-fi miniature war game brought a lot of streamlined features. But there are always hiccups with the launch of a new edition, which the Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Balance Dataslate will attempt to address.
The Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Balance Dataslate Announcement
In an official Warhammer-Community post, Games Workshop explains what changes the Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Balance Dataslate will bring to the game.
The first major change is a tweak to Devastating Wounds. They no longer cause mortal wounds. Instead, they bypass armor saves and invulnerable saves. This change will significantly impact the deadliness of the Aeldari army, which has been dominating the current tournament meta.
Next are some harsher restrictions on stratagems. Modifying a stratagem's CP cost is now more situational. For example, if a rule states it lowers a stratagem's CP cost but doesn't specify one, then it only applies to Battle Tactic stratagems.
As for more specific stratagem changes, there is one of note. If you want to use the Overwatch Stratagem, you need to have a line of sight on your target. No more indirect fire. In addition, Towering units cannot use Overwatch.
The Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Balance Dataslate also includes changes to Army Rules and Detachments. Some of these are nerfs. Genestealer Cults are no longer infinite, their units must always make a dice roll to return. In addition, only Armiger squires benefit from Imperial Knights' Bondsman abilities.
Alternatively, some factions have gotten buffs. Death Guard now has a new aura ability. Leagues of Votann got a boost to their Judgment tokens, and Adeptus Mechanicus now has reinforced armor on their Skitarii footsoldiers.
Finally, several powerful units have been capped. Those units include the Adeptus Custodes' Custodian Wardens, Vertus Praetors, Custodian Guard squads, and the Space Marines' Desolation Squads.
The Warhammer 40k 10th Edition Balance Dataslate and updated Munitorum Field Manual are available for download now. In addition, the changes are now live on the Warhammer 40k 10th Edition app.
