Back in November, Steamforged Games acquired the rights to the retro brawler-inspired board game Street Masters. Now, the tabletop developer has announced a Kickstarter campaign for Street Masters: Champion Edition, as well as new details for older fans of the series.
The Street Masters: Champion Edition Kickstarter announcement
In an official post on Steamforged's website, Street Masters: Champion Edition will be a definitive edition of the board game. As the name implies, it will include the base game as well as all previous expansions.
In addition, Street Masters: Champion Edition will include a brand new expansion called Lament of the Blood Moon. This expansion includes thirteen new minions, three new ally/rival characters, two new bosses, as well as new stages and story decks.
The post addresses the reason for the production of Street Masters: Champion Edition. According to the product owner and game designer Sherwin Matthews, it was a matter of consolidation and bringing new players into the game.
Street Masters was always designed to be a modular system, and across three crowdfunding campaigns, already has a wealth of expansion content, adding a plethora of new fighters, enemies, bosses, and stages. Obviously amazing, but also as daunting as facing an end-of-level-boss for anyone new coming into the game. To give some context, when we counted up just the unique miniatures — not including the multiples — we were in triple digits.
So, when it came to the new Kickstarter campaign, we wanted to make the back catalogue as accessible and user-friendly as possible. Thus, Street Masters: Champion Edition was born. The contents of the previous crowdfunding campaigns will be available in a series of Collector’s boxes, which contain all of the content from the corresponding campaign.
Street Masters is a 1-4 player cooperative miniatures and deck-building game. Inspired by 16-bit action games like Double Dragon and Streets of Rage, your friends will take to neon streets, engage in tactical street brawls, and slowly build your deck of skills along the way. The game has both an Arcade mode and full narrative campaigns.
Finally, Steamforged does address those who backed the original Street Masters: Tide of the Dragon Indiegogo campaign. If you back the Champion Edition at any pledge level, your Indiegogo pledge will be shipped alongside it at no additional charge.
Alternatively, if you do not wish to back the Street Masters: Champion Edition Kickstarter, your Indiegogo pledge is still on the way. All you need to do is wait until the campaign's pledge manager opens, then pay the shipping costs and update your shipping address if necessary.
The Street Masters: Champion Edition Kickstarter campaign will go live on February 21, 2024.
