Ubisoft has responded to criticism regarding Star Wars Outlaws' Season Pass and the Jabba the Hutt mission locked behind it, reassuring players that it won't be the only Jabba content in the game.
In a statement provided to IGN, Ubisoft says that Jabba's Gambit, which will be exclusive to those who buy the Season Pass (which is also included within the Gold and Ultimate Editions of the game), is an "optional, additional" mission that won't constitute your only chance to meet Jabba.
The studio says that Jabba the Hutt and his Cartel will be "one of the main syndicates" you'll deal with in Star Wars Outlaws, and that they will be included in the base game, regardless of which edition you purchase.
Ubisoft's decision to offer this mission only as part of the Season Pass has been criticized, although this behavior is hardly unique to Star Wars Outlaws.
Some fans will likely be mollified by the knowledge that Jabba's Gambit won't be their only chance to meet Jabba the Hutt, but only offering the mission to Season Pass holders is still likely to rankle with some, especially as it doesn't seem possible to buy the mission separately.
It's also worth noting that we don't know what the Jabba's Gambit mission will contain, so Ubisoft's comment that it's an "optional, additional" mission could be wide of the mark for some players. We'll have to wait and see.
Star Wars Outlaws is an upcoming open-world action-adventure game from Tom Clancy's The Division and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora developer Massive Entertainment (itself a subsidiary of Ubisoft).
Set for release this August, the game will follow the scoundrel Kay Vess as she tangles with the galaxy's deadly crime syndicates.
Since Kay is a rogue rather than an honorable warrior, you'll have access to stealth, distraction tools, and all kinds of other underhanded tricks to help you explore the first fully open-world environment in Star Wars gaming history.
Star Wars Outlaws launches for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 30th. Stay tuned for more.
