Today GSC Game World announced the release date of the highly anticipated game S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl,
We learn that the game by the popular Ukrainian developer will launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 5, 2024.
This means that it's coming a bit later compared to the Q1 2024 announced at Gamescom 2023, but considering the conditions in which the game is being developed, it's a great feat of resilience that it is coming at all.
While S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has been in development for many years, its developers had to soldier through the hardships created by the Russian invasion of Ukraine (which claimed the life of at least one developer on the front lines), blackmail attempts by hackers and even data leaks.
Back in November, we heard that the game had entered its final phase of development, and now the destination appears to be finally in sight.
We also hear that pre-orders are available now.
You can find it on Steam, and if you'd rather have a physical edition for Xbox Series X|S, you can pre-order that on Amazon, including both the standard and the Collector's Edition.
The Collector's edition comes with a Steelbook, a Letter, a Souvenir Zone Permit, a Sticker, the Deluxe DLC, a Map of the Zone, a Poster, Patches, a Token, a Keychain, an Artbook, and a Figurine.
I personally played S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl at Gamescom 2023 and met its brave developers. You can read my thoughts in my hands-on preview to learn what I thought about it
While the game was still rough around the edges, the DNA of the series was certainly recognizable, and the promise was absolutely visible. Hopefully, the additional time in development will afford GSC Game World the chance to polish their labor of love as much as they need.
