To keep people waiting for anticipation and to give just a little bit more of a tease, Sony's Shuhei Yoshida announced the release of the PlayStation App on both Google Play and iTunes app stores. If this doesn't get you excited for the next gen consoles, I don't know what will.
It's been talked about since day one with the app being an extension of the system itself. Being demoed in early November it looked good, and there were a lot of things it promised it would do. Someone at Sony must have gotten antsy and pulled the trigger early, but it looks like it's a good thing.
It does become the mobile extension of the PlayStation Network that you need it to be as well as enhances the PlayStation 4 experience. There are the usual suspects there with messaging your friends on the network and you can also see who wants you to play what with game notifications. Sounding familiar? It gets even more similar.
The app also lets you utilize your phone as a keyboard for the system (hmm...) and with the games that support it, it can be used as a SmartGlas...er... second screen experience for it.
With Sony playing catch up with Xbox and their SmartGlass Experience, lets hope that this fires up Microsoft for a revamp coming real soon. You can get the PlayStation App at both the Google Play store or the Apple iTunes store here.
