Last week we spoke with Reiner Knizia about the latest edition of Medici being re-released in partnership with Steamforged Games. While the majority of the conversation was based on what is new in Medici's latest edition, as well as a deep dive into the creative process behind new editions of board games and designing games for major IP Knizia did reveal the existence of a new member of the Medici family.
Since Medici's release in 1995 there have been two members of the Medici family added to the mix, Medici: The Card Game and Medici: The Dice Game. During our discussion, talking on the importance of a new publisher not only releasing a single game but a game's whole family, the existence of a new Medici game was revealed.
Very little was revealed about the upcoming release but fans who want to get deeper into the mechanics of Medici and want a more sophisticated experience should be excited. Knizia had the following to say about the upcoming game.
"I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say it but I'll say it anyway, there will be a new unpublished family member of Medici coming as well. It's a little bit upmarket and a little bit more sophisticated. It's just maybe a challenge for those people who want to go a bit deeper without taking it over the top"
Nothing more was revealed about the game including when we might expect to see it so for now there's nothing to do but wait for further confirmation.
