Update: PO'ed: Definitive Edition is, in fact, very real. Nightdive has confirmed that although the game was announced on April Fools' Day, it's very much a real project, so it's safe to get hyped if you're a PO'ed fan.

Original story: Retro purveyor Nightdive has announced a remaster of the cult 90s shooter PO'ed, which originally debuted on 3DO in 1995 and on PlayStation the following year.
Of course, it is April Fools' Day today, so there's every chance that Nightdive's announcement is a joke, but there are a few pieces of evidence pointing away from that conclusion.
For one thing, PO'ed: Definitive Edition has both a Steam and a GOG page, and the screenshots on both pages, as well as the debut trailer released earlier today, seem like great lengths to go to for the sake of a gag.
Granted, PO'ed is exactly the kind of game that would constitute a good April Fools' joke, but Nightdive's work on this project looks too extensive to be a fakeout.
The remaster promises overhauled visuals, better frame rates, and "up to 4K 144fps performance".
If you played PO'ed back in the 90s (and have presumably recovered from the resulting fever dreams), then you can also look forward to a brand new difficulty mode that should give you a challenge even if you think you know the original inside-out.

If you're not familiar with Nightdive Studios, you might recognize some of the projects the developer has worked on.
Nightdive's extensive catalog includes remasters of Shadow Man, the Turok games, and Blood, as well as the recent System Shock remake.
While it might be true that PO'ed isn't quite on the same level as some of the classics on which Nightdive has worked, it's still fun to see the studio take a crack at a cult classic, so let's hope that this doesn't turn out to be an April Fools' prank.
