A PlateUp! Halloween update has been announced for next week. Coinciding with the cooking roguelite hitting 500,000 sales, the update will bring new dishes, costumes, and automation methods, as well as run modifiers to give each run a new spice.
First up, you're getting a run of positively petrifying new hats. A pirate hat, jack-o-lantern, glasses disguise, and witch's hat will all be available for you to wear while you're cooking up a storm. All of these hats are completely free forever, so you're not going to have to pay for them, provided you're not counting the Faustian bargain for your soul they require. Uh, forget I said that. There will be other costumes to check out as well, so keep an eye out for them!
Naturally, the PlateUp! Halloween update will also add a range of new dishes, from frightful favorites like pumpkin pie all the way through to something apparently called "Spiny Fish". Sounds scary, right? Two new automation items have also been added in the form of a teleporter and a set of corner grabbers. The teleporter acts as a dumbwaiter upgrade, while the corner grabbers let you change grabber output direction during the day.
A spooky new location has also been introduced in the form of a restaurant with Halloween-themed decorations, and you can look forward to new spooky songs to keep you company while you cook as well. Four new run-altering cards are being added to introduce exciting new modifiers to your run, and there are a host of new quality-of-life improvements and other additions to get excited about as well. Be sure to check out the PlateUp! Halloween update Steam announcement for a more detailed rundown.
You can grab PlateUp! right now on Steam, where it'll cost you $17.99 or your regional equivalent. If you're a fan of games like Overcooked! then you'll likely get a kick out of PlateUp! as well. It's one of several cooking-oriented games that have sprung up in the wake of Overcooked!'s success, which also include hybrids like the cooking tower defense adventure Forge Squad and additions to existing games like that rather odd Dead Cells update not long ago. We'll bring you more on PlateUp! as soon as we get it.
