A Plague Tale: Innocence is a survival-horror game developed by Asobo Studios that follows the twisted tale of Amicia and her younger brother Hugo on a journey to uncover their true purpose in life.
The story begins in France, and a horrific plague of disease has overtaken the lands. Amicia and Hugo are on the run from the French Inquisition and will need to team up with other children and those on the run to escape a gruesome fate. They soon realize that as this adventure begins, their innocence has reached its end, and it is time to grow up.
Players will take on the life of Amicia and play the game from the third-person perspective. For a vast majority of the game, players will need to be sneaky and utilize stealthy tactics in order to evade the inquisition's detection. Most enemies in this game will kill Amicia instantly when she has been detected, meaning there is no running or fighting back once you have been caught. You will have a slick and some rocks to use as a method of distraction or even to stun guards that stand in your way. When a guard has been stunned, the rats might take notice and attack the guards for you, giving you a path to continue your progress. The sling and rocks can potentially kill an enemy if they do not have their head protected, but again, it will need to be done quickly and quietly.
There are several engaging puzzles to solve, including quite a few that force you to move the infected rats out of your way. Rats seem to absolutely hate fire, so this will be the main method used to get rats to leave you and Hugo alone. As for Hugo, players can also control him later on in the game. He has the ability to control rats but does not have the ability to craft items.
