The most successful Kickstarter of all time will be getting its feet wet in the retail area come Sunday. The Pebble smartwatch will be coming to Best Buy on July 7th.
This announcement was confirmed by the CEO of Pebble, Eric Migicovsky, in a statement:
The outpouring of support from our Kickstarter backers was the first signal to our team that Pebble's approach to smart, wearable technology was something the world was ready for. We've learned that people want their Pebbles. Thanks to Best Buy, we're giving folks more ways to make that happen.
This is a major move for Pebble, paving the way for smartwatches to hit the mainstream before other companies release their versions. With Samsung and Apple working on their own watches, getting products out on the mainstream shelves early in the game will give Pebble a leg up on these tech titans.
About the Pebble
This Bluetooth watch uses a black and white e-paper screen and sports a vibrating motor, as well as an accelerometer that can recognize gestures. It connects to both iOS and Android via the Pebble app.
The watch will give you quick access to your text messages, email alerts, music, and other app notifications. The ecosystem is also in a constant state of development, with APIs and SDKs available for developers.
There are currently 3 different watch colors, with only the Jet Black being available at Best Buy to start. If you want the Cherry Red or the Arctic White, these colors will eventually be available for pre-order.
