A Starfinder board game and two Pathfinder board games are coming from Gale Force Nine in 2022, bringing Paizo's pen-and-paper RPGs to a new format later this year.
Pathfinder is a pen-and-paper RPG that can trace its roots back to Dungeons & Dragons. While Paizo has continued to provide players with new things to do (including last year's announcement of the Pathfinder Infinite platform), it has also been keen to adapt its world to other formats. We've already seen the fantastic video games Pathfinder: Kingmaker and Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, and now something new is on the way -- and this time, it's brand-new board games.
What We Know About the Starfinder and Pathfinder Board Games from Gale Force Nine
The Starfinder and Pathfinder board games will be releasing throughout 2022, each of which will bring a new spin on the classic pen-and-paper RPG gameplay to tabletop gamers.
Here are the names of the games and their anticipated release dates according to a press release:
- Pathfinder: Level 20 (April 2022)
- Starfinder: Pirates of Skydock (Q3 2022, sometime between July 1-September 30, 2022)
- Pathfinder: Tall Tales (Q4 2022, sometime between October 1-December 31, 2022)
While the names sound quite interesting, there isn't much we know about these games with the exception of Pathfinder: Level 20.
What is the Pathfinder: Level 20 Board Game?
The Pathfinder: Level 20 board game drops players into the world of Pathfinder in a somewhat unusual situation: you'll be playing as kobolds.
A 19th-level adventurer is roaming the dungeon and he only needs 5XP to hit Level 20. Unfortunately, you and your friends are only lowly kobolds and can't do much to stop him. 2-6 players will do their best to escape from this deadly adventurer. In the worst-case scenario, you can hope to be the last survivor of the lot.
Pathfinder: Level 20 is expected to launch in April 2022 at the price of $30 or your regional equivalent. You can learn more about the first of these upcoming Pathfinder board games on its official website.
