Today Grinding Gear Games is hosting its Exilecon event, and revealed news and gameplay for Path of Exile 2 and its predecessor.
First of all, we learn that now Path of Exile 2 won't be an expansion of the original game anymore. It'll be a fully standalone game, with separate balance, expansions, and systems. Yet, purchases will be shared between both games.
Secondly, we learn about the closed beta date, and it's certainly not close. According to the developer, it's coming on June 7... 2024. Grinding Gear Games is still working on adding skills and balancing everything. They recognize that it has been a long time coming, and they're "Incredibly excited to be near the finish line," but they're not quite there yet. They're "determined not to rush this" and make sure they get everything right.
This is certainly not the first time we hear that the beta is next year, but Rome wasn't made in a day.
That being said, at least we get a new trailer and new gameplay, which you can watch below.
Speaking of the original Path of Exile, the next expansion "Trial of the Ancestors" is releasing on August 18, 2023.
