Warhammer TV announced the next edition of their popular skirmish wargame, Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team with the reveal of the Kill Team Octarius boxed set. Kill Team features small numbers of troops, battling it out in elite special operations, rather than the huge armies of Warhammer 40,000. This makes it very accessible for beginner wargamers, or for gamers who want a quicker game.
Kill Team was originally released in 2018 and has had several expansions released since then. The new boxed set, Kill Team Octarius, will update the rules, along with brand new miniatures for the Orks and Imperial Guard. The Death Korps of Krieg are elite units of Imperial Guardsmen from a devastated post-nuclear world. Their miniatures have generally only been available under Games Workshops' resin, Forge World production, and having them available in hard plastic out of the Kill Team Octarius box is a welcome announcement for Imperial Guard players.
The Orks in the set are an elite unit of Kommandos, and where the previous set was available with limited weapon options, Octarius gives the Kommandos a great selection of special weapon options. The boxed set also includes a Kill Zone full of Ork scenery, which plays in very well as the Kill Team Octarius announcement came alongside the reveal of the next Warhammer 40,000 narrative expansion, War Zone Octarius.
So as well as being an update to the Kill Team rules, Octarius will also serve as an introduction to the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 narrative. Brand new Ork units were also revealed, along with a teaser video for the Black Templars, holy warriors who bring the Emporer's justice to aliens and enemies of the Imperium of Man.
Little is know about the upcoming changes to the Kill Team rules, but the brief glimpses of the rules shown during the live stream make it look like a more simplified ruleset, along the lines of the fantasy skirmish games, Warhammer Age of Sigmar Warcry. no firm release date was given, but it was stated to be available to pre-order in August.
The full stream can be watched again, along with a whole host of images from the reveals can be seen on the Warhammer Community site here.
