Developer Player First Games and publisher Warner Bros have announced a full MultiVersus release date.
The platform fighter, which stars characters like Batman, Scooby-Doo's Shaggy, and the titular duo from Rick and Morty, launches across PC and consoles on May 28th.
MultiVersus' open beta closed back in June, having added characters like Marvin the Martian and Black Adam to its roster during the beta period. Now, though, in a brand new video, game director Tony Huynh sets out what's coming to MultiVersus at launch.
In the new developer update, Huynh reveals the release date, and also the fact that MultiVersus will be remaining free-to-play.
Huynh says the team has collected a lot of feedback from the open beta period, and that a number of changes will be implemented as a result of that feedback.
Naturally, those changes include new characters and stages, and the video shows off concept art for a couple of those stages. One of them is The Powerpuff Girls' Townsville Hall, while the other appears to be the titular lab from Dexter's Laboratory. Looks like we can expect characters related to those shows as well.
MultiVersus is also moving to Unreal Engine 5, used by major productions like the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and Soulslike Lords of the Fallen. According to Huynh, this change improves the game's "visuals and character lighting".
The game has apparently been rebuilt "from the ground up" to support new netcode as well. As a reminder, MultiVersus already supports rollback netcode, but it sounds like Warner Bros and Player First Games have improved the systems already in place.
Existing characters will get new attacks, and a "brand new PvE mode" will also be added, introducing additional playstyles with "unique rewards". Again, Huynh doesn't reveal too much about this PvE mode.
MultiVersus (re)launches for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on May 28th.
