Back in 2022, Modiphius Entertainment announced Cohors Cthulhu. According to the studio this world of cosmic horror, set during the days of the Roman Empire, would be part of a major transmedia project. Now we have Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics quickstart rules, a glimpse of the upcoming miniatures wargame.
The Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics quickstart rules announcement
According to an official press release, the Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics digital quickstart rules will serve as a prologue to this new cosmic horror setting. The rules include a narrative scenario where players take on the role of a Centurion and his cohort as they are ambushed by creatures beyond mortal ken.
The quickstart rules will let players come to grips with the core rules of Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics. Players can play using any 28-32mm hero and monster miniatures they have on hand. The prologue's three different scenarios introduce new mechanics as play progresses. Finally, players can tackle these scenarios either solo or cooperatively as a group.
This is the second wave of material released as part of the Cohors Cthulhu franchise. The first wave was the successful Kickstarter campaign for the Cohors Cthulhu Roleplaying Game. The RPG will use Modiphius 2d20 system, the same system used for Star Trek Adventures and the official Fallout Roleplaying Game.
Modiphius is no stranger to miniature wargames either. Their body of work includes The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, an upcoming Mass Effect board game adaptation, as well as the recent revival of the playful plastic wargame Brikwars.
That campaign unlocked six different supplement books and 25 miniatures. Those same miniatures are compatible with Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics.
The Cohors Cthulhu: Tactics quickstart rules are available to download right now on Modiphius' website for free. The Kickstarter campaign for the full version of the game will be going live some time next month.
