Recently, some Modern Horizons 3 leaks have made their way on to the internet. The upcoming Magic: The Gathering set has been so hotly anticipated by fans that any information on its contents has been in high demand. Demand that Wizards of the Coast is keen to address with a small peek behind the curtain.
The Modern Horizons 3 leaks preview
In an official blog post, Wizards of the Coast's own Blake Rasmussen addresses the circumstances around the Modern Horizons 3 leaks. Overall, the tone of the post is light and self-aware, addressing that unofficial photos of cards from the set have gone public.
At any rate, we're here. We've experienced leaks of this magnitude in the past, and each time, we get similar feedback—that there is a significant contingent of our fans who prefer to engage with previews without the fuzzy, distorted potato camera photos getting in their way. We definitely prefer it.
That said, leaks of the magnitude we're seeing with Modern Horizons 3 are tough to ignore outright, hence this very article. So, let's talk about where things go from here (and, yes, also show off some cards in non-potato-camera form).
The post continues with an outline of scheduled previews peppered with official artwork of some of the cards featured in the Modern Horizons 3 leaks. Generally, the post confirms that they will be continuing their planned sneak peeks as intended in the weeks leading up to the set's release date.
Those previews include a revamp on classic Eldrazi-stories, a look at the set's Limited format, and cards featured in upcoming Commander Decks. One of these previews will be happening alongside a Magic Story recounting the rise and defeat of the Eldrazi May 13.
At time of writing, the site used for showcasing the cards shown in the Modern Horizon 3 leaks, DailyMTG, is either down or operating at a reduced capacity. This may be due to high traffic volume by curious players. Nevertheless, we were able to gather some screenshots of the previewed cards.
Those leaked cards include the Eldrazi Nulldrifters, adorable corgi Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd, and the devastating six-cost Black Sorcery card, Final Act.
While leaks can lead to losses in mutual trust, Wizards of the Coast's approach to lean in seems to have helped keep interest high for Magic: The Gathering. Given that this is a community that made collectible history with the $3 million sale of a pristine Black Lotus card, their passion still burns bright.
Modern Horizons 3 officially releases May 21.
