While we wait for Metroid Prime 4, Nintendo announced a Metroid Prime Remaster that is available digitally today. A physical version will release February 22nd.
There are some new features and upgraded graphics of course, but the biggest news is the twin stick controls, which should feel more familiar to first person shooter fans.
Originally released for the Nintendo GameCube back in 2002, Metroid Prime took our heroine into first person for the first time. All of the classic Metroid mechanics were translated from the side-scrolling platformer to a first person platformer. The transition paid off and Metroid Prime became one of not only the best games reviewed on GameCube, but one of the best reviewed games of all time.
In Metroid Prime, you explore the alien world of Tallon IV, battling the Space Pirates and seeking out the secrets behind their experiments and the mysterious substance that destroyed the planet. Beyond the Space Pirates, you'll of course come across all sorts of alien creatures and the dreaded Metroids. In Prime, you'll see all of Samus Aran's classic arsenal in a new way if you haven't given the series a chance yet, including morphing into a ball.
Metroid Prime kicked off a trilogy, with the last game releasing back in 2007. In 2017, Metroid Prime 4 was announced, but it was rebooted back in 2019 and is still in development for a future date. No details about when it will be released or what the game may entail have been released yet.
Considering this is the first of a trilogy, we can likely anticipate to see the other two games given the remaster treatment sometime in the future. However, Nintendo did not share any details on that today.
