With the release of the limited print run Eternal Masters just days away, Wizards of the Coast has created a special Magic: The Gathering Online Legacy Gauntlet event to introduce new players to the format. Unlike previous Gauntlet events, such as the Pro Tour Gauntlet, which allow players to pilot the top-performing decks from that event, the Legacy Gauntlet will instead use decks that best represent the format and give it a unique feeling. On entry to the Legacy Gauntlet, players will be randomly paired with one of thirteen decks, all of which are "average" decklists for that archetype. Such decks include format staples such as Death and Taxes, Sneak and Show, and Reanimator, as well as up and coming decks such as Eldrazi. These decks all feature cards that are in Eternal Masters, such as Sensei's Divining Top, Karakas, and Force of Will.
Unfortunately for players who are looking to add cards to their Magic: The Gathering Online collection, the deck that they receive will only be available for the event; once the event has concluded, players won't be able to keep the cards from their deck. Players will also be unable to make any modifications to the decks that they receive for the Legacy Gauntlet event outside of sideboard substitutions to their main deck.
The Legacy Gauntlet event will only run for a short time, from June 8, 2016, to June 16, 2016. Entry for the Legacy Gauntlet event is either 6 event tickets (MSRP $1.00 per ticket), or 60 play points, as well as the $9.99 fee for Magic: The Gathering Online if players do not already have an active account.
Eternal Masters is set for release Friday June 10, 2016, in physical print and June 17, 2016 on Magic: The Gathering Online. TechRaptor has covered news regarding Eternal Masters, and will be reporting on the impact of the set on the secondary card market, as well as how the set fairs in the Draft format, in detail this Friday.
