Today Wizards Presents showed off a lot of new things related to Wizards of the Coast's two tentpole products, Dungeons & Dragons and Magic the Gathering. For fans of Magic the Gathering there was a lot to look forward to on the horizon including all kinds of crazy crossovers with Universes Beyond, some more info about Magic 30, and a roadmap of what the 2023 roadmap of set releases looks like.
Universes Beyond - Everything a nerd could dream of
Magic the Gathering is returning to their Universes Beyond line. In the past, this set has consisted of cards from pop culture including featuring characters from Street Fighter. At today's event they announced three more massive crossover sets that will be released.
Warhammer 40,000
The first of these crossover sets is with the wildly popular wargaming series Warhammer 40,000. This set will include with it four different commander decks, each for the different factions in the game; Humans, Tyranids, Necrons, and Chaos.
Fans who get their hands on the collector's edition these cards will realize that the cards have been treated with a new Surge Foil treatment. You can view a few of these cards from when they were revealed at the May Announcement.
Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth
Coming next year, Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth will contain a new treatment called Borderless Seam cards that will allow players to connect cards as part of a large scene from the book series. This will be 18 cards set up in 3 rows, depicting scenes like the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, the largest battle of Minas Tirith during the War of the Ring.
Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth will be a booster product, and be legal for Modern when it releases in Q3, 2023. Additionally, there will be a Magic: The Gathering alchemy release for the set, with digital-only cards, as well as cards from the set.
Doctor Who
Another juggernaut of nerddom is Doctor Who. This series will get a set consisting of commander decks, collector boosters, and Secret Lair drops. The cards included in this collection won't just cover the New Who content that began in 2005 but will cover the full history of this extremely long sci-fi series.
Dominaria United - Where is the story going from here?
