The latest edition of Kemet is returning to Kickstarter. The Ancient Egyptian-themed competitive board game did get a new edition, Kemet: Blood and Sand, in 2020. Now publisher Matagot is bringing the game back to Kickstarter, along with a brand new expansion.
Kemet: Blood and Sand Kickstarter return
According to a Dicebreaker report, Kemet: Blood and Sand will be returning to Kickstarter this year. In Kemet, two to five players command the Egyptian Gods as they recruit deadly creatures, gain new powers, and challenge each other in fierce battles. Only one can rule the desert and the Nile; may the best God win.
The goal is to crowdfund a brand-new expansion for the game. This expansion will introduce support for another player, bringing the total count to six. In addition, a community-requested solo mode will be included.
Furthermore, the new Kemet: Blood and Sand expansion will contain several new game modes. These modes will be "new modules and gameplay configurations" designed by original co-creators Jacques Bariot and Guillaume Montiage. Players can pick and choose which of these new rules to include.
The Kickstarter campaign will include reprints of the original Kemet: Blood and Sand and prior offerings from the 2020 Kickstarter campaign. The new expansions will be available alongside these additions.
Curiously, a post on Matagot's website hints that this campaign may be the start of more to come. The post states:
As well as adding additional content and gameplay configurations to the Blood and Sand range, this crowdfunding campaign will see the launch of a large scale discussion with the community regarding the future of Kemet.
Our team has been working on some exciting potential features for the range that will be unveiled during the campaign. Together, we'll shape the future of these sand-filled lands
Kemet: Blood and Sand is part of a continued trend of tabletop revivals. These have ranged from coveted, but very expensive, niche titles like Monte Cook Games' Invisible Sun: Return of the Black Cube and Green Ronin Publishing's reprint of Mutants and Masterminds 3rd Edition.
There is no current start date for the new Kemet: Blood and Sand Kickstarter at the time of writing.
