In this guide, we'll tell you how to get the Torch in Conscript Chapter 2 and how you can use this flashlight to find important items such as Body Armor.

Conscript is no stranger to puzzles; indeed, most of Chapter 1 is dedicated to finding the code for a single combination lock. Chapter 2 has you on a bit of an item hunt to unlock some new areas, and the very first step will be to find the Torch (also known as a flashlight to us Americans). Read on to learn how to get it — and some Body Armor, too.

How to Get the Torch in Conscript | Where to Find the Flashlight

You can get the Torch in Conscript by going to the Old Ruins in the Support Trench in Chapter 2. Here's a Support Trench Chapter 2 Map that will show you the route you'll have to take. I'll break down where you have to go step by step.

1. Grab the Pistol and Head Out

Following the conclusion of Chapter 1, you'll wake up in the Dump next to the other dead bodies. Fortunately, you're not quite so dead. Unfortunately, any weapons you had equipped are gone (even if you stored them in your stash).

Pick up the Ruby Pistol at the bottom right of the room. Then, head out the door and run to the east.

2. Unlock the Trench Thoroughfare

Your next step will be to unlock the Trench Thoroughfare to the right. You'll need the Trench Key for this; fortunately, you still have it from Chapter 1.

You may encounter some enemies along the way or find some items. Don't worry too much about fighting enemies or collecting loot just yet; you're going to come back through this area later. For now, focus on getting the Torch in Conscript. Open the Trench Thoroughfare door and head inside.

The Trench Thoroughfare has the "Key Duties" note and some Ink for saving your game. Continue heading east.

3. Grab the Trench Shovel and Keep Moving

You're now in Reserve Trench East. You may be tempted to explore, loot, or fight enemies, but hold off for now — keep heading directly to the east. At the end of this section, you'll find a Trench Shovel sitting next to the easternmost door.

Pick up the Trench Shovel and Assign it to your hotkeys. Then, go through the door.

This area is Emergency Control. Again, don't worry too much about looting — you're going to come back through here a little later. Head to the top right of Emergency Control and go through the door.

You're now in Communication Trench East. There are a few enemies in here; again, you can choose to fight or evade the enemies. Head north until you see a door on your left.

4. Stash Your Loot and Save Your Game

You'll see a door to the left about halfway up Communication Trench East. Head inside and you'll find a safe area with a save point, a stash, and the trader. If you looted anything along the way, you can safely stash it here for later retrieval.

When you're ready, head back out into Communication Trench East and continue heading north.

5. Head Down to the Old Ruins

Once you're back outside, continue heading north and go through another door. This is the Old Artillery area. There's a bit of loot here, but your main goal should be to go to the ladder at the northwest of this area.

Head down the ladder and you'll be in the Old Ruins. Here's the map for this new area:

6. Grab the Torch (Flashlight)

The first room is pretty dark. Don't worry about any enemies down here; your only opponent is the darkness.

Fortunately, you can see the torch to your left from the doorway.

There are two passages to the south. Head down the left-hand passage and follow it; it will take you to the room with the Torch.

How to Get Torch Batteries | Recharge the Torch

There are two ways to get Torch Batteries in Conscript: loot them or buy them from the trader. Fortunately, the Torch in Conscript comes with a fully-charged Torch Battery — and you can find another spare in the same room.

7. Grab the Torch Battery

Once you've grabbed the Torch, Assign it to a hotkey. Turn it on for a moment and look to the west; you'll see something glittering at the top-left of the room with the Torch. Head over to that area and you can loot a Torch Battery.

Where to Get Body Armor in Conscript

Now that you have a Torch in Conscript, it's time to put it to good use! The area you're in also happens to have Body Armor, a valuable defensive item that can save your life.

Head back to the main room where you entered the Old Ruins. This time, we're going to go down the southeastern path.

8. Get Some Cigarettes

Directly below the main room is a hallway in a circular loop. Unfortunately, you can't travel down the right-hand path; you're going to have to go around the long way.

When you reach the bottom of this passage, you'll see another passageway going south. Keep heading to the right and head north to the opposite side of the barricade. You'll find a barrel that you can smash with a melee weapon; inside are some Cigarettes. Pick them up, and head south.

9. Grab the Body Armor

Finally, it's time to grab the Body Armor. Head south and you'll find Body Armor in the top-right of the southernmost room. You'll have to equip the Body Armor to gain its benefits and it will occupy an inventory slot, but it's worth it.

Be careful with your Body Armor. You cannot fix it with a Repair Kit; once its durability is gone, it's gone! Save it for a particularly tough area.
