The world of Tomb Raider has been revitalized recently. A Netflix animated series is coming. Tomb Raider 1 - 3 Remastered came out, bringing Lara Croft's adventures to a modern audience. Now, Evil Hat Productions is making an official TTRPG, Tomb Raider: Shadows of Truth.
The Tomb Raider: Shadows of Truth Announcement
In an Evil Hat Productions blog post, the studio went into further detail on Tomb Raider: Shadows of Truth. Players take on the role of Truth Seekers, contemporaries of Lara Croft who strive to reveal long-hidden knowledge and thwart those who would steal and exploit artifacts for their gains.
The game involves action, exploration, and self-discovery. It is packed with perilous challenges and tough choices. The game will use the Powered By The Apocalypse TTRPG system, which has been used in Avatar Legends.
Groups will form a team in Tomb Raider: Shadows of Truth using a Team Playbook, then build individual team members based on several archetypes. These archetypes are the Crafter, Scholar, Hunter, Companion, Legacy, Changed, and Reclaimer. Finally, the Keeper of Truths will describe the dynamic world around the team,
It is up to the group to utilize their Maps, Aid, and Lore to boost their skills as they race towards the Final Tomb.
Tomb Raider: Shadows of Truth will include an 8.5 x 11 full-color hardcover containing rules, advice, and adventures for both Seekers and Keepers alike. In addition, Evil Hat will be hosting a public playtest. The game will be coming to crowdfunding sometime in 2025.
Curiously, this is not the first Tomb Raider TTRPG. Back in October 2021, Square Enix announced Lara Croft's Tomb Raiders. This was a TTRPG that used an original system and was developed internally by several senior members of Crystal Dynamics.
That TTRPG was released in May of 2023 and had a similar conceit as Tomb Raider: Shadows of Truth.
