Our Enshrouded Shroud Survival Guide will tell you how the Shroud works, how to enter the Deadly Shroud, and give you tips on surviving this deadly fog.
The "Shroud" is a big part of Enshrouded -- heck, it's a part of the name! This mysterious cursed fog has rolled over the world of Embervale and even the best crafted gear and cooked food won't help you survive it if you don't know what you're doing. Read on to learn all about the Shroud!
How the Shroud Works
The Shroud in Enshrouded is a magical fog that you can only stay in for a limited amount of time. Your resistance to the Shroud is represented by a timer at the top of the screen when you're "Enshrouded" -- that is to say, when you're in the Shroud. When the timer runs out, you will rapidly die.
Aside from introducing a time limit to exploration, the Shroud also tends to have different resources and enemies. Some items can only be acquired within the Shroud, so you're definitely going to need to explore it.
Not all Shroud is the same, though. Deadly Shroud (or Red Shroud) is too powerful for you to survive at your current Flame Strength; attempting to enter it will rapidly drain your Shroud protection no matter how much time you might have. Avoid it at all costs until you can safely explore those areas!
How to Increase Your Time in the Shroud
There are five ways to increase your time in the Shroud:
- Upgrade your Flame Altar to increase the maximum amount of time you can stay in the Shroud.
- Invest in Skills to increase your Shroud Timer.
- Craft and consume Shroud Survival Flasks at the Alchemist NPC.
- Find Hourglass consumables within the Shroud.
- Stand near a Return Beacon within the Shroud.
Return Beacons, in particular, can fully recharge your timer and keep it recharged while you stand next to them. You can consider them a safe "waypoint" while you're exploring the larger Shroud areas.
How to Survive the Deadly Shroud / Red Shroud
The only way to survive the Deadly Shroud (a.k.a. the Red Shroud) is to upgrade your Flame Strength at your Flame Altar. There is no other way to survive for any longer than a few seconds within the Deadly Shroud.
Keep in mind that Enshrouded is an Early Access game -- some of the Deadly Shroud areas will not be accessible until a future update arrives for the game. The current maximum Flame Level for the Early Access launch version of Enshrouded is Flame Level 6.
Enshrouded Shroud Survival Tips
Here are some tips to help you survive the Shroud!
Know Your Way In... and Out
If you're heading into the Shroud, you had best know the way back out. Sometimes, the Shroud is in a canyon and there are only a few ways you can make it back to the surface. The last thing you want to do is try to dig your way up a cliff with a Pickaxe in a panic because you have a minute left on your timer.
Have a Clear Goal
Don't just wander into the Shroud aimlessly -- it's a deadly area that punishes unprepared players. Make sure you know why you're going into the Shroud and don't get distracted along the way.
If you're going in to explore, focus on exploring. If you're going to take down an Elixir Well, head straight for it. Enshrouded can be unpredictable, so make sure to leave yourself some wiggle room to make it back out.
Build a Flame Altar Nearby
Sometimes, things go bad no matter how much preparation you do in advance. It's not a bad idea to build a Flame Altar nearby so you can quickly respawn and make it back to your body if you die.
Avoid the Red Ground
Some Shrouded areas have a bright red floor. This is akin to the Deadly Shroud -- touching it will rapidly drain your health. Make sure you look before you leap and avoid touching it if you encounter it while exploring!
Be Cautious When Fighting Enemies
Generally speaking, enemies within the Shroud are tougher than enemies outside of it. Don't assume that a similar-looking enemy will be as easy to defeat -- fight them carefully and one at a time. It's very easy to get overwhelmed by tougher enemies inside of the Shroud!
