Keen Games has announced that a new Enshrouded update, Melodies of the Mire, has arrived, bringing with it a new sub-biome to explore, musical instruments to delight your friends, and more.
The update is the second major patch for Enshrouded, following on from March's Hollow Halls update (and several smaller patches bringing bug fixes and the like, of course).
First up, the new Blackmire sub-biome has been introduced, and it's trading Enshrouded's trademark width for verticality, allowing you to explore its furthest reaches by bouncing on springy pads to reach your destination.
Naturally, the new sub-biome brings with it plenty of new beasts to discover, as well as new materials to harvest, which in turn means you'll be able to make more decorations and furniture for your home base.
One of the features promised on the Enshrouded roadmap back in March was the ability to play musical instruments, and that's been introduced in the Melodies of the Mire update, so get ready to shred your favorite lute solo for your buddies.
You'll also find a ton of smaller features, fixes, and quality-of-life changes in this update, including the ability to dual-wield daggers, new naming options for bases and character tombstones, and Steam Deck upgrades, plus tons of other things.
Make sure to check out the full Enshrouded Melodies of the Mire patch notes here if you want to see everything that's new in the latest update.
If you need bringing up to speed on Enshrouded, it's an open-world survival-crafter in which you (and, optionally, your friends) must attempt to survive in a hostile world plagued by the titular Shroud.
Inside the Shroud, monsters are more hostile, but there are also great treasures waiting to be found, and you'll need all the help you can get if you want to build a life for yourself.
Enshrouded launched in late January, quickly racking up a million players before hitting the two million mark in February. It's safe to say this one is a bona fide hit, even in what looks to me like a very crowded market.
You can check out Enshrouded right now on PC via Steam. Make sure to take a look at our preview of the game if you're still wondering what all the fuss is about.
