Bandai Namco and From Software have announced that Elden Ring sales have reached another impressive milestone just over a week before a major DLC expansion arrives.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter) earlier today, Bandai Namco revealed that Elden Ring has crossed 25 million sales, which is pretty impressive for a game that's more than two years old.
It's likely that a new surge of Tarnished discovered the game after the release date for its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion was announced back in February. Further information for the expansion, including the setup for its (characteristically oblique) narrative, was revealed last month.
In February 2023, Bandai Namco announced that Elden Ring had sold 20 million copies, which means that the game has clocked up another five million sales between then and now.
Elden Ring has been one of the publisher's most successful games to date; last year, Bandai Namco revealed declining game sales owing to the fact that Armored Core 6, despite proving "popular", could not compete with Elden Ring's sales boost in the same period the year prior.
Around the time of Elden Ring's release, Bandai Namco declared its intention to "expand" the game's IP, and there have been murmurs that the publisher is working with Tencent to create a mobile version of Elden Ring, although nothing has been officially revealed yet.
Honestly, as a huge Elden Ring fan, I'm rather hoping nothing comes of this desire, because I don't want to see the IP sullied by underwhelming projects that dilute the original game. Still, who knows? The Elden Ring mobile game might be great. Ahem.
If you somehow haven't heard of Elden Ring, it's an open-world action-RPG developed by Dark Souls and Bloodborne studio From Software.
The game transposes those games' characteristically brutal third-person combat into an open-world environment, tasking players with traveling to various locations and defeating demigods in order to become the Elden Lord of the Lands Between.
You can check out Elden Ring right now on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21st. Make sure to read our review here if you want to know why this one is a must-play.
