Dungeons of Hinterberg Character Guide | Where to Find and All Rewards

Our Dungeons of Hinterberg Character Guide will go over where you can find each character in the game, along with the rewards you can get.

You’ll meet a total of 16 befriendable characters during your time in Hinterberg, each having up to 4 rewards they can give you as you become closer. Most events are only available during the evening, though some require you to visit other areas during the day.

There is no time limit for befriending characters, meaning that you don’t need to worry about gifting them items. If you want the “Generous Spirit” achievement, give Marina a Hinterberg T-Shirt from the gift shop.

Note that some character events are locked behind main story progression (or completely, in the case of Alex.) Many characters are also not available every day, though they will never permanently disappear.

Albert

How to Meet
He hangs out at the cafe.

Rewards

1. MP slot increase
2. Consumables that recharge Attack Conduits
3. Charm slot increase

Alex

How to Meet
Met as part of the main story. Her friendship rank goes up via the main story as well.

Rewards

1. Unlock Character Compendium
2. 1 HP Slot
3. Charm slot increase
4. Faster Relationship Level Ups

Dani

How to Meet
Dani is found in the Main Square of Hinterberg. You need 60 Relaxation to talk to her, which can be gained via certain scenic spots or visiting the Spa in Hinterberg.

Rewards

1. 1 HP Slot
2. Dani’s Charm: Relaxation increases Physical Defense
3. Dani’s Legendary Pads

Dog

How to Meet
The Dog (which you get to name, though you can still just choose “Dog”) sits outside Hannah’s shop. You won't be able to befriend him until you find some Wild Strawberries.

Wild Strawberries can be found in Hinterwald, on the ledge near the giant tree.

Rewards

1. Help find a hidden dungeon (Mushroom Isles). Will also appear randomly in areas and give you loot when talked to.

Gertrude

How to Meet

Gertrude is initially found in the Main Square of Hinterberg. She’s looking for her brooch, which is also in the Main Square — go to the backstreet and cross the small bridge.

Rewards

1. 20,000 Hinterbucks
2. Gertrude’s brooch (sell to Hannah for 150,000 Hinterbucks)

Hannah

How to Meet
Hannah runs the smithy in the Tourist Area. Her shop is extremely useful, since it lets you improve both your swords and armor.

Can I Get an Autograph Quest
During Hannah’s friendship events, you’ll be tasked with finding three “famous people” to help save her shop.

Once you’ve become Acquianted (first rank) with Dani, Jae, and Kai, you can ask them to sign the petition to save the shop. There’s no time limit on the quest, though you won't be able to upgrade armor until it’s completed.

4. Big sortiment, big discounts (new items, everything is cheaper)

Henning

How to Meet
Henning hangs out in the back street of the Main Square.

Rewards

1. Rare Attack Conduit
2. Henning’s Charm: Familiarity increases Magical Defense

Jae

How to Meet

Jae can be found in the training section of the Tourist Area. After viewing Jae’s first event, you can find her near the start of Doberkogel to reach the first rank with her.

Rewards

1. Dodge Stamina increase
2. Rare Attack Conduit
3. Jae’s Legendary Leggings

Julian

How to Meet
Julian is often in the Grand Hotel in the Tourist Area.

Rewards

1. Better prices when selling items
2. Everything in Julian’s shop for free

Kai

How to Meet
He hangs outside the bar in Hinterberg. You won't be able to start his friendship events until you reach 50 Amusement (watching the TV at night is a quick way to boost this.)

Rewards

1. Additional Attack Conduit slot
2. Faster Attack Conduit recharge
3. Rare Attack Conduit

Klaus

How to Meet
Met as part of the story. Can then be found in the tourist building — you can trade trash for Hinterbucks

Rewards

1. Emergency pager
2. Remove Goo from Weapons and Armor
3. Charm slot increase

Marina

How to Meet
Met near the starting point of Doberkogel. Can then be talked to at the ice cream stand. 

Rewards

1. Dodge Stamina increase
2. Unlock breakfast selection — Can choose between 1 extra HP or 2 MP each morning (faster Attack Conduit recharge option unlocks after a few days.)
3. 2 HP slots

Renaud

How to Meet
He usually sticks to the Tourist Area. You can’t start his events until you reach 80 Renown — you can reach this simply by completing 8 dungeons.

Rewards

• Unlock Combo Counter (gives bonuses for longer combos, but only counts regular sword attacks).
• Renaud’s Charm: Renown increases Physical Attack
• Renaud’s Legendary Sword

Sam

How to Meet
He hangs outside the bar in Hinterberg. You won't be able to start his friendship events until you reach 40 Amusement (watching the TV at night is a quick way to boost this.)

Rewards

1. MP slot increase
2. Sam’s Charm: Amusement increases Magical Attack
3. Sam’s Legendary Body Armor

Thea

How to Meet
Thea can be found near the Cinema. The first reward for her friendship events will let you unlock the red chests that are found around the world and in dungeons.

Rewards

1. Open locked treasure chests
2. Discounts at most village shops
3. Thea’s Charm: Goo blobs recharge attack conduits

Travis

How to Meet

Near the start of the Abandoned Mineshaft dungeon, after the first puzzle. Can then sometimes be found outside of the bar.

After unlocking Photo Mode (press down on the d-pad/F2), take a picture inside any dungeon so you can continue with his friendship events.

Rewards

1. Unlock Photo Mode
2. 1 HP slot
3. Travis’ Charm: resurrect once per combat
