BioWare has announced that Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has a new name, and that it won't be long before we finally get to see some gameplay for the long-awaited RPG.

In a blog post, BioWare outlines the reasons for the change and teases what you can expect from the next major installment in the Dragon Age franchise, although no release date or release window have been revealed as yet.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is now Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Dragon Age executive producer Gary McKay says that Dragon Age: The Veilguard's previous name, Dreadwolf, didn't adequately capture "what this game is all about" or "how strongly" the studio feels about the game's characters and narrative.

By contrast, The Veilguard apparently expresses that fervor much more strongly, although given that we still don't know much about the game or its setup, I think the difference is relatively moot at the moment.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has a snazzy new name.

In the aforementioned blog post, McKay says that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will introduce seven companions, each with "deep and compelling storylines" associated with them.

McKay also points to the fact that each Dragon Age game introduces a new hero with a new identity: the Gray Warden, Hawke, and the Inquisitor. Perhaps "The Veilguard" will be the name of the new game's hero.

Thankfully, it won't be very long before we get to find out what's going on with Dragon Age: The Veilguard, because BioWare says it's planning to unveil the first gameplay footage for the game on June 11th at 8am Pacific.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf's original name was based around the elf Solas.

At that time, BioWare will show off "over 15 minutes" of gameplay from the opening moments of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, so we'll finally learn what kind of game Dreadwolf (or The Veilguard) actually is.

Dragon Age 4 was officially unveiled as Dreadwolf back in June 2022, having been in development for some years prior. The game passed its alpha development milestone in October that same year, and BioWare subsequently promised a full reveal this summer, which it looks like we're about to get.

Watch this space for more info on what is now Dragon Age: The Veilguard as soon as we get it.
