The final update for 2022 has finally come to Crypt of the NecroDancer; with it, we can now become the Reaper! Not only do we have a new playable character to enjoy, but we also have a new event titled Merry Cryptmas.
Crypt of the NecroDancer is a hardcore rhythm roguelike where players will need to move to the beat as they beat down enemies and traverse the dungeons that increase in difficulty as you progress further. Initially, there were only 15 playable characters available on the PC version of the game, but today that changes. The Reaper, who was previously a Switch console-exclusive playable character, has now made its way to Steam. The Reaper not only defeats enemies to the beat of their own scythe but collects the souls of every enemy killed. These angry souls are ready to fight by your side as you make your way through the crypts, giving you an extra boost to your damage output.
On top of a new playable character being added, we have a new event that begins today, December 19, 2022. The event is called Merry Cryptmas and it is your job to collect as many presents as possible to gain points. You may also open these precious packages to obtain helpful items for you to utilize in the dungeons. You will also have the opportunity to meet the man behind the presents and elves, Santa Claus! Well -- kind of. Santa seems to have come down with a case of the Zombie Virus and might want to feast on your bones and brains, and the virus has spread to his elves. He might not be as jolly as you thought, so you will need to take him and his elves down or you might just become their next meal.
What would an update be without quality-of-life changes? Well, luckily the devs added some improvements to the game to keep you sailing smoothly through the endless crypts. Soul Familiars will no longer block the Reaper's movements and will take on a unique color for each player during co-op mode to tell them apart more easily. The level generator has also been optimized, meaning that the generator will now take up less memory and space.
There are a plethora of little add-ins and updates that have been made. To check out the full list of changes, check out the game's official Steam page.
