Motion Twin has revealed that a Dead Cells animated series is in the works. The series is set to air in 2024 and will adapt elements of the game into a narrative format, becoming available first in France before being released to the rest of the world.

Dead Cells is a pretty successful indie game, having crossed the 10 million sales barrier recently, and so its expansion into other media makes a lot of sense. Over on the game's Steam page, Motion Twin reveals the animated series, which will be created by the French animation studio Bobbypills. You might know Bobbypills' work from Dead Cells' animated trailers, which make them a perfect fit for this series.

Just like the game, the series will take place on a cursed island overtaken by a mysterious plague. The island's king develops a "remedy" for the plague, but it just makes things worse, and it's not long before a prophesied hero with flames for a head shows up to save the kingdom...if he can be convinced to do so first. You can check out the first teaser for the Dead Cells animated series here.

The teaser doesn't contain too much info, but it does give a good idea of what kind of aesthetic the creators are going for with this animated series: not a million miles away from Dead Cells, it turns out. Alongside Bobbypills, French anime streaming service Animation Digital Network will be co-producing the series, which will consist of ten episodes of around seven minutes each.

Despite the announcement of this animated series, Motion Twin says it hasn't forgotten about the video game version of Dead Cells, and that more information on that will be coming "soon". In the meantime, you can check out Dead Cells right now on PC, consoles, and mobile devices, and the animated series is set to air in early 2024.
