The Crooked Moon Kickstarter Campaign
According to the Kickstarter campaign, The Crooked Moon is a supplement for D&D 5e. It is a 400+ page book that contains an original campaign setting called Duskenvald, a world heavily inspired by folklore, horror movies, and the aesthetics of Halloween.
The book contains additional player options and adventuring materials. Prewritten adventures for characters 1-13, over thirteen unique character subclasses like the Sinner Rogue or Horned King Patron Warlock, and more than thirteen Halloween-themed races like the ratlike Plagueborn or the pumpkin-esque Harvestborn,
In addition to new spells and feats, the book supports a brand new Fateweaving system. This is designed to tie character backstories and motivations, things usually regarded as flavor, into the central plot of the campaign.
As for monsters and systems, The Crooked Moon has plenty. The book contains more than 60 Folkloric Monsters. Furthermore, they are more than just health sponges. Players will need to investigate these legends and perform rituals if they wish to be rid of these things.
Thankfully, the book also contains some epic boss fights as well, complete with multiple phases.
Lastly, the Kickstarter campaign boasts supplemental accessories for The Crooked Moon. These include specially-themed tarot cards, miniatures, and even an original soundtrack composed by The Blasting Company, who are most well known for their work on Over The Garden Wall.
Over The Garden Wall has been cited as the inspiration for another notable TTRPG project with similar pastoral Halloween vibes: Under The Autumn Strangely.
The Crooked Moon is the first TTRPG project by the group behind Legends of Avantris. Legends of Avantris is a D&D actual play series set in an original homebrew setting, telling the tales of seven players.
At the time of writing, The Crooked Moon Kickstarter campaign has raised $2,345,931, which is more than 10,000% of their funding goal of $20,000. This is notable since this means The Crooked Moon is now among the most successful TTRPG campaigns on Kickstarter.
A similar project, the Bloodborne-inspired Steinhardt's Guide to the Eldritch Hunt, ended its campaign with $2.6 million raised. Officially licensed adaptations like Old Gods of Appalachia and The Magnus Archives ended with $2 million each.
The Kickstarter campaign for The Crooked Moon concludes on November 2.
