Today Square Enix and car manufacturer Porsche revealed a collaboration dedicated to the popular JRPG Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
While you won't see Porsche sports cars replacing Chocobos in the game any time soon (at least, there is no mention of it in the press release), the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles gave a Porsche 911 a gorgeous themed livery.
It certainly looks the part, as you can see in the pictures below.
We also get a video in which Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura, Producer Yoshinori Kitase, and Director Naoki Hamaguchi drive around the streets and highways of Tokyo on two iconic Porsche 911 models, a vintage specimen from 1997 and the latest 2024 model.
The model years are a deliberate choice, as Final Fantasy VII was released for the original PlayStation in 1997, while the latest model represents Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
In the video, the three creators discuss the legacy of the original game and talk about the creation of the new one.
You can watch it below.
The press release included a comment from Kitase-san himself.
With Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, just like with the original Final Fantasy VII, we began development with a dream to create something that would become the standard for storytelling in the next generation of games. Dreaming means overcoming many challenges, but it’s also a chance to create new possibilities.
We share that willingness to reinvent and challenge established norms with our friends at Porsche.
We also hear from Porsche Director of Brand Management & Partnerships Deniz Keskin.
At Porsche, we’re inspired by dreamers around the world—those who are driven by a desire to create change. Few people embody that pioneering spirit quite like the creators of Final Fantasy VII, who redefined the role-playing game genre and raised the bar for the video game art form to astonishing new heights.
On the eve of their latest highly anticipated release, we at Porsche salute the entire development team at Square Enix and continue to feel inspired by dreamers like them.
Another video shows Briana White (Aerith) and Caleb Pierce (Zack) enjoying a ride in the kitted out 911.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is now available for PS5. If you haven't already, you can buy a copy on Amazon.
If you need a reason to make the jump, you can read our enthusiastic revew, which awarded Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with a 9.5 out of 10, just shy of perfection. You can also read more details in our interview with director Naoki Hamaguchi and producer Yoshinori Kitase.
This is just one of the many initiatives Square Enix engaged in to promote this highly anticipated game, including a massive promotional campaign in Japan that also featured a series of countdown trailers starring the main members of the cast, a takeover of Shibuya's famous Scramble Crossing focusing on Sephiroth, and something definitely less serious.
