Cataclismo, an upcoming RTS from Manor Lords publisher Hooded Horse, has been delayed by a few days, and the decision has also been made to release the game in Early Access.
In a Steam news post announcing the changes, Hooded Horse and developer Digital Sun say that the delay, which will see the game launching on July 22nd, is intended to "get everything in place for a successful [Early Access] launch".
The devs also say that Early Access was chosen to "polish the game alongside our community", calling this model "the perfect tool" to ensure that the finished product is as good as it can be, a position with which I'm sure No Rest for the Wicked's Thomas Mahler would agree.
Although it's not explicitly mentioned, it's not hard to imagine that Hooded Horse and Digital Sun have chosen to launch Cataclismo into Early Access partially as a result of the success of the publisher's city-builder Manor Lords.
The two studios say that the Early Access period for Cataclismo will be "short", and it sounds like the game will have plenty of stuff to do.
At launch, Cataclismo will feature a campaign complete with a tutorial and eleven levels, with more coming before the 1.0 launch. It'll also offer a skirmish mode across "two different levels and biomes", as well as an endless play mode and a level editor.
If you're not familiar with Cataclismo, it's a hybrid real-time strategy and tower defense game created by the folks behind roguelike shop management sim Moonlighter.
During the day, you'll build up your defenses and gather resources with "Lego-inspired mechanics", and by night, you'll use the traps, fortifications, and troops you've amassed to defend your stronghold from encroaching horrors.
Cataclismo will boast a realistic physics model that allows you to crush enemies beneath falling bricks, and when the full release arrives, it'll also offer a full 30-hour campaign "with VA and cutscenes".
You'll be able to check out Cataclismo when it launches on PC via Steam Early Access on July 22nd. Stay tuned for more on this one.
