Activision has clarified that the terrifying 300GB number associated with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 won't actually be the game's download size.

Activision has taken to social media to clarify that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 won't actually take up an eye-watering 300GB of space on your storage drive.

When Black Ops 6's pre-order pages began to appear on various storefronts after Sunday's Xbox showcase, eagle-eyed viewers spotted that the game would seemingly require a staggering 309.85GB of space, as seen on the Xbox store page (where the figure is still visible).

As you can imagine, that would take out a sizable chunk of most gamers' storage drives, so it's a relief that Activision has clarified Black Ops 6 won't actually require that much drive real estate.

Black Ops 6 won't actually take up over a third of your storage drive.

In a post on the official Call of Duty Updates X (formerly Twitter) account, Activision says that the 309.85GB figure "does not represent the download size or disk footprint for Black Ops 6".

Instead, the figure rather strangely refers to a complete installation of Modern Warfare 2 and (that's the newer games, not the originals), as well as Warzone and "all relevant content packs".

This includes "all localized languages combined", which Activision admits is "not representative of a typical player install experience". If you want to, you'll be able to download and play Black Ops 6 without downloading any of the aforementioned items.

Activision goes on to say that the actual file size for Black Ops 6 will be available closer to the game's launch in October. Looks like you won't need to go on a frenzied deleting spree after all.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is, believe it or not, the next major Call of Duty game, as well as the sixth title in the long-running Black Ops sub-franchise.

The game will take place during the first Gulf War in the early 90s as far as the campaign is concerned, and it'll also feature the usual forays into multiplayer and Zombies modes.

What's more, it'll be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one (although Game Pass Core and Console members are out of luck), and although it won't require the hefty storage drive size we'd feared, it will require an internet connection at all times, even for its campaign.

You can check out Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 when it launches on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on October 25th.
