NIS America has revealed its upcoming The Caligula Effect 2 PS5 release date, and it won't be too long before you can check out this reality-hopping JRPG on Sony's machine. The game is heading to PS5 on October 17th in North America, October 20th in Europe, and October 27th in Oceania.
The Caligula Effect 2 was originally released on PS4 and Switch back in 2021, subsequently receiving a PC port in June last year. As you'd imagine, it's a followup to the original The Caligula Effect, which also made its way to PS5 this year in the form of the enhanced remake The Caligula Effect: Overdose.
Alongside the PS5 release date announcement for the sequel, NIS America also released a brand new trailer showing off some of the story and gameplay elements you can look forward to in The Caligula Effect 2, including the turn-based combat and conversations with characters. You can check the trailer out here.
In The Caligula Effect 2, you're trapped in a virtual world called Redo, along with your classmates. In this world, people get the chance to relive their lives without making the mistakes they regret, which might sound fun, but hey, it's not reality, right?
In that spirit, you, the protagonist, form an alliance with a doll named X in order to break yourself and your friends out of Redo. You form the "Go-Home Club", an organization dedicated to shattering the false world of Redo and returning to the real world.
Combat revolves around a rather unique feature by the name of "Imaginary Chain", which allows you to see into the future of a fight and know what your combos will look like if they're successfully executed. You can use this knowledge to plan your battle strategy and change tactics to suit the situation.
Outside of battle, you'll be chatting to your friends both "in person" (that is, in the virtual world of Redo) and on a messenger app called Wire. There, you can discuss the Go-Home Club's goals, find out more about your friends, and build relationships. If you're into Persona, you'll probably get a kick out of The Caligula Effect 2 as well.
The Caligula Effect 2 lands on PS5 on October 17th in North America. It's also currently available for PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
