Perhaps the most poignant personality during a pandemic, lazy is the perfect embodiment for all of us stuck inside. Lazy villagers love to sleep around, talk about snacks, and are sometimes just downright weird. These individuals are extremely easygoing, and you'll be hard pressed not to get along with one of these male-only lazy villagers. Of course, like everything, we have our favorites—and those we absolutely disdain. While the lazy personality is a popular one among Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans, there's a few that fall behind the pack, and several others that rise above the rest.
Worst Lazy Villager - Prince
Look at this good-for-nothing frog. Prince stems from a personal hatred of mine, and it's truly unfortunate that he even appears in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I shared the original Animal Crossing with my brothers all the way back in 2001. Perhaps it was because I looked up to my older brothers and molded my thoughts and opinions based on what they thought, but they absolutely despised Prince. And now, so do I.
If you are unfortunate enough to get this terrible, bearded amphibian, you'll have a hard time getting him to move out. Despite many pitfalls and hits on the head with nets, he wouldn't move out. But, personal issues aside, he's rude as rude can be. His catchphrase is "burrup," so if you want your villager burping in your face all the time, be my guest. No sane person would like that, and I certainly don't.
Best Lazy Villager - Lucky
Lazy villagers have among the best designs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Lucky is proof of that. He's a mummy dog. He's the perfect complement to the awesome pharaoh cat Ankha, because they're both playing with an Egyptian theme. Lucky is also special because he has been a highly sought-after favorite since his debut in the Japanese-only Animal Forest game. In both Animal Forest and Animal Crossing on the GameCube, this spooky pup had two Master Swords from The Legend of Zelda in his house.
If you're "lucky" enough to get him in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you'll be met with a spooky house. It has several graves in it as well as a skeleton and torches! His house has certainly changed throughout the years, but fans' love for him has not.
Worst Lazy Villager - Chester
This is a controversial choice, no doubt. Pandas are lovable creatures, after all. Why, then, does Chester look so unsettling? His face vaguely resembles that of a sad clown, and his eyes tell us that he is a truly disturbed individual. Chester doesn't seem very happy at all, and in a game where most animals wander around cheerful and upbeat, this is just not right. The cub villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are a little strange, since there are fully grown bears. For this reason, I have a personal prejudice against the species, and Chester's clown-like face and sad demeanor are enough to land him as one of the worst lazy villagers.
Best Lazy Villager - Drago
Drago is a special villager, because despite being classified as an alligator in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, his appearance contradicts this. Drago's name blatantly reveals why he's so special, and it's not hard to see why. He has horns, for goodness sake—this is something which no other alligator in the series can claim. Yep, he's a dragon, and that's pretty awesome.
Other than that, you'll notice that he's no different than any other lazy villager. However, when an animal looks different than other members of the same species, they always turn out to be highly popular fan favorites.
Worst Lazy Villager - Broccolo
Honestly, I'm just really confused by Broccolo. His appearance is certainly atypical for lazy villagers. He's a mouse, so that's one point against him—many of the mice in Animal Crossing are so hideous, that it's a wonder how they even got through quality assurance at Nintendo. Then there's his unfortunate haircut. Bangs aren't a great look for Broccolo. Because of the terrible haircut and being a mouse, his design is lacking compared to other lazy villagers.
Best Lazy Villager - Stitches
Allow me to contradict myself just this once. I did roast the cub villagers, and for the most part, I dislike them. For Stitches, however, it totally fits. He's a teddy bear! Everyone loves teddy bears, and a stuffed animal is a perfect theme for lazy villagers. Lazy villagers are known for lounging around, and that's what stuffed animals do, after all. One element of Stitches that is completely unique are his eyes. He has two x-marks for eyes, which appear as though they are stitches.
Worst Lazy Villager - Barold
I have no personal hatred for Barold. I just think he's an abomination. I'm not sure what was going on in the game designers' heads when they went forward with Barold, but he is without a doubt one of the worst-looking Animal Crossing villagers across the board. One reason why Barold is so disturbing is how human-like he looks. Further, his eyes are crying out for help, as though his soul is screaming, "End me, please!" Human-like appearance aside, Barold is a cub, which is contrarian to his adult-like appearance. If cubs are supposed to be adolescent bears, why is Barold this way?
Best Lazy Villager - Tucker
Like our friend Drago, Tucker is a special animal among his kind. Tucker is classified as an elephant, but he has a brown, thick coat of fur like a mammoth. He also has tusks, unlike the other elephants in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As a relative newcomer to the series, Tucker is popular for his primitive look and how unique he is compared to other villagers.
Admittedly, Tucker is a personal favorite of mine, and I was able to secure him as a villager in my personal Animal Crossing: New Horizons town. His house is incredibly cool—there's a Stonehenge in it, and it has an overall tribal look. While this mammoth lives with just the basics, he loves to sit back, relax, eat, and have a laugh at life. You're going to want Tucker in your town for how lovable and oblivious he is.
Worst Lazy Villager - Derwin
Ducks in Animal Crossing are either great, or downright awful. As you can probably tell, Derwin belongs in the latter category. This lazy duck is a downright dork, much to his detriment. He looks a bit like a nerdy child, with his totally lame striped shirt. Then there's that mop of a haircut, which doesn't help his image at all. Last but certainly not least, his catchphrase is annoying and makes seem pretentious; I mean, who wants to hear a duck say "derrr" all the time?
My hatred for Derwin is a bit of a personal one, because he was in a town that I shared with my brothers on the Nintendo DS version of Animal Crossing. I don't know why, but my brothers hated him like we did Prince. As influential as my brothers are, I started to hate him too. With his return once more to the series in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I wouldn't wish this fellow to move in to the house of even my greatest enemy.
Best Lazy Villager - Zucker
How could we forget Zucker? This goofy octopus is one of three of his kind in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and fans are chomping at the bit for an opportunity to get him in their town. Quite possibly the most popular octopus of the bunch and certainly the top lazy villager, Zucker is an innocent and adorable freckled octopus with a food-like appearance.
Zucker is also owner to quite possibly the best catchphrase in all the series: "bloop." It's another reason why he's so great. Should you ever have the opportunity to invite Zucker into your town, do it. And if he does become a resident of your island, make sure he never leaves.
