Obsidian has accidentally leaked the Avowed release date, and the studio's latest RPG, which is set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, is heading to PC and Xbox in November.
In a news post released following the Xbox showcase yesterday, Obsidian accidentally let slip that Avowed will be launching on November 12th, information that wasn't revealed during the aforementioned presentation.
That information was quickly scrubbed from the post, but not before X (formerly Twitter) user HazzadorGamin managed to grab a snapshot of the original paragraph in all its release date-containing glory.
In the original wording, Obsidian says that since its RPG was shown during January's Xbox presentation, the studio has been "busy with Avowed getting it ready for release on November 12th, 2024".
However, the article has now been updated to simply read "we've been busy with Avowed", with all mention of the release date having been excised.
If this release date is legitimate and no delays are planned, it's a little odd that Microsoft and Xbox didn't decide to announce it during yesterday's showcase, when a story trailer for Avowed was shown.
Given that the release date was scrubbed, it's clear Obsidian and Microsoft aren't ready to announce it yet, but I suppose it won't be long before we learn this info officially, even if it is strange that it was omitted from yesterday's trailer.
If you're not familiar with Avowed, it's a first-person fantasy RPG developed by Pillars of Eternity studio Obsidian, and it takes place in the world of Eora, just like Pillars does.
Announced in 2020, the game will feature a range of combat options, including melee weaponry, pistols, and magic, and will also offer several companions to the player, each with their own individual combat specialities.
As revealed yesterday, Avowed's story will have you investigating the Dreamscourge, a "mysterious plague of the soul" that transforms victims into fungal husks.
You'll have to track the Dreamscourge to its source, all while navigating tensions between the locals and the empire of Aedyr, from which you hail.
Avowed launches for PC and Xbox Series X|S this year. No official release date has yet been given, but it looks like we can expect the game to arrive on November 12th. Stay tuned for more.
