In this Aska Fishing Guide, we'll teach you a trick to reliably catch fish from the ocean and tell you how you can harvest fish for their meat.
Feeding your villagers is an important part of Aska, and you shouldn't neglect one of the most important resources in the game: the ocean. With a fishing rod and a little bit of bait, you can head out to any beach and get some good food for your Settlement. Read on to learn everything you need to know about fishing!
How Aska Fishing Works
Aska fishing is a little more complex than fishing minigames in other games. There isn't much in the way of indicators that alert you to whether or not you're about to catch a fish. Fortunately, there's a trick that you can use to increase your chances of success!
First, you're going to have to craft a Flimsy Fishing Rod. Then, you'll need to craft some bait; in my experience, you can't catch fish without bait in Aska. Equip the bait, head out to the ocean, cast your line, and wait.
You'll want to wait for the bobber to go underwater and stay underwater for an extended period of time. Instead of watching the bobber, you should pay attention to the tip of the fishing rod — once it starts bouncing, hit the left-click on your mouse to reel in the fish. If you're too late, you'll lose the bait and catch nothing.
Once you've caught a fish, it will automatically be added to your inventory in the Medium Item storage area of your backpack.
How to Harvest Fish
You can harvest fish in Aska by dropping them on the ground, highlighting the fish with your cursor, and holding R. You'll need a Knife to harvest a fish. Take care not to hold Shift and left-click on a fish in your inventory — you will eat the raw fish instead of harvesting it!
As with other raw meat and food, you can cook the harvested fish meat over a Barbecue on a Campfire or add it to the Crock Pot in a Cooking House. Cooked food is always better than raw food — especially when it comes to meat.
