This Aska Building Guide will tell you how building works, how to repair and rebuild structures, and what you need to build Add-Ons to existing structures.

A major component of Aska is attracting villagers to the island and having them live and work in a settlement. Villagers can help with gathering resources and crafting, but you'll need to have the infrastructure in place to help them survive and keep them happy. This guide will tell you everything you need to know about building!

How Building Works in Aska

Building in Aska uses a multi-stage construction process similar to Medieval Dynasty. Once you've placed the initial blueprint on the ground, you'll have to flatten the land. After that, you'll assemble the building in one or more steps, each of which will require different resources. The total resources required for a building are listed on its recipe in the build menu.

Additionally, some buildings can be upgraded to an improved version provided that you've unlocked the blueprint and you have the necessary resources. Upgraded buildings generally have more health, larger storage, and may provide access to a greater variety of crafting recipes.

Key buildings required for a Settlement include:

  • The Eye of Odin: This summons new villagers in exchange for Jotun Blood. You can only have one The Eye of Odin.
  • Shelter/Cottage/Longhouse: These provide a place to sleep for you and your villagers. The Chieftan's House is a unique building reserved for players only, and villagers will not take anything from the storage units built within this structure.
  • Campfire: This provides the Warmth stat during winter.
  • Rain Collector/Water Well: This provides a source of clean water. Water Wells are far superior, but they must be built atop a Natural Water Collector.
  • Altars and Runestones: These allow your villagers to fulfill their religious needs. More complex Runestones can allow you to generate buffs for your village.
  • Gatherer's Hut: A Gatherer's Hut allows you to assign villagers to forage for food in designated areas.
  • Farm: A Farm allows you to grow food from seeds.

You can build anywhere on the island provided that the land is flat enough and unobstructed from obstacles such as indestructible rocks, trees, or ruins. Although you can spread your buildings out over a large area, it's a better idea to keep them close together so you can inexpensively surround them with a wall and reduce the potential damage from invasions.

How to Repair and Rebuild Structures

Structures in Aska can be damaged by either enemy attacks or degradation over time. In those cases, a small glowing, yellow pile of debris will appear behind the building. This yellow pile will show you which resources you need to supply in order to fully repair the building.

Furthermore, buildings can also be totally destroyed. In those cases, you will have the option to rebuild them in the exact same location by interacting with the debris from the destroyed building. This is especially useful for rebuilding connected walls and ensuring a solid border.
