The world of tabletop Kickstarter campaigns has seen a new massive success. This campaign isn't for a D&D 5e supplement like Crooked Moon but a new card game. The Altered TCG campaign went live yesterday, and it has already raised more than $1 million.
The Altered TCG Kickstarter campaign
According to the Kickstarter page, the Altered TCG is designed by Régis Bonnessée (Dixit, Dicegorge. Mysterium) and aims to redefine the boundaries of collectible card games.
The goal of the game is a notable departure from other TCGs. Your goal is to unite Hero and your Companion by navigating them through a series of biomes before your opponent does. You'll play spells and generate mana to do so, all to get your characters through these areas.
Overall, the game's appeal appears to be less about violent wizard duels like in Magic: The Gathering, but closer to Disney Lorcana's competitive resource management.
The Altered TCG Kickstarter has additional details for this game's initial launch. The inaugural set will include six starter decks, each with its own distinct theme and playstyle, display boxes, and boosters. The campaign even includes drop rates for the different card rarities.
Furthermore, the campaign has multiple stretch goals for additional products. These include playmats, deck boxes, card sleeves, and promo cards with alternate artwork.
The biggest departure for the Altered TCG is how it will handle card ownership.
According to a report by Dicebreaker, if you own a copy of a card, you can freely and legally print multiple copies. You simply request via a marketplace app. After paying a small fee, the printed cards will be shipped to you. The app can also be used to buy and sell rights to certain cards.
The backer tiers for the Altered TCG Kickstarter are as follows:
- Discovery Pack for $26: Your choice of two out of six starter decks.
- Expert Pack for $162: Your choice of two starter decks, a display of 36 booster packs, and all unlocked stretch goals.
- Master Pack for $540: Two starter decks, four displays of 36 booster packs, and all unlocked stretch goals.
- Divine Pack for $5,400: All six starter decks, 42 displays of 36 booster packs, and all unlocked stretch goals.
The Altered TCG Kickstarter launched on January 30 with an initial funding goal of $54,103. At the time of writing it has raised $1,256,688, completely fulfilling all planned stretch goals. The campaign concludes on February 29.
