Survival horror fans won't have wanted to see Alone in the Dark delayed, but unfortunately, that's exactly what publisher THQ Nordic has announced.
In a rather flowery tweet earlier today, the game's developers confirmed that Alone in the Dark won't launch on its originally intended release date of October 25th.
Instead, the game will now launch on January 16th due to the month of October being so "busy" for releases. The devs say that it is "impossible" to achieve the "eerie embrace of solitude" necessary for horror games to thrive when the month is so packed with other releases.
As such, in order to ensure that Alone in the Dark offers a "breathtaking" experience, the release date has been pushed back, so you won't be getting to play this one until next year.
Information regarding the Alone in the Dark reboot was first leaked back in August last year, with publisher THQ Nordic confirming the reboot's existence shortly afterwards.
News of the original October release date was accompanied by a free prologue demo, which you can still check out now. It's very brief, but it does a good job of setting up Alone in the Dark's story and atmosphere.
It's worth noting that Alone in the Dark isn't the only game to switch up its release date owing to just how packed October is looking.
Fellow survival horror title Alan Wake 2 also got delayed in August, although that delay was much less significant, pushing the release date back by just ten days.
In a followup press release, THQ Nordic points to Alan Wake 2's release, as well as the launch of Spider-Man 2, as key factors in Alone in the Dark's delay.
The publisher also says that the delay will serve an additional purpose in allowing the developers to "meticulously perfect the gaming experience".
Alone in the Dark launches for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on January 16th. Watch this space for more info.
