Tomorrow, 2B from NieR: Automata will be released as a DLC guest character for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and today Cygames revealed her gameplay.
The trailer, which you can see below, reveals what we can expect from the popular heroine in the game.
2B was originally revealed at Granblue Fantasy Fest in December, and she will launch alongside update 1.2 which will also be available tomorrow, bringing a variety of improvements to the game.
This is part of what appears to be an ongoing quest by Square Enix to put 2B in basically every game universe ever created. At this point, I would be surprised if she wasn't the character who appeared in most crossover in the history of gaming.
Of course, we shouldn't be too surprised. The android heroine born from the genius of Yoko Taro is also one of the most beloved characters that came from the gaming industry in the past few years, so it's not too surprising that many developers are happy to have her in their own games. I would imagine she sells quite a few copies on her own.
Incidentally, we already know that she will be followed by two popular characters from Granblue Fantasy, Vane and Beatrix, coming in April and May respectively. Two more unannounced characters will be released in August and October to complete the first season pass.
You can see what I mean in the trailer below.
Update: an official character guide video has also been released.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising is currently available for PS5, PS4, and PC. It's a relaunch of the original Granblue Fantasy: Versus, which was released in 2020. This new version includes additional gameplay mechanics, new story content, and new characters like Grimnir, Nier, Siegfried, Anila, and Lucilius.
The fact that a completely new game has been launched only three years after the original shouldn't surprise. Versus was released near the beginning of the pandemic, and that pretty much obliterated any chance it had to make an impact on the eSport scene.
Cygames is very dedicated to the eSports scene, so it has decided to give the title a new lease on life, and so far it appears to be working.
If you're interested in the Granblue Fantasy franchise as a whole, you'll probably also enjoy the recently released JRPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink, which has sold over a million copies on PC, PS5, and PS4. If you're curious about the reason for this success, you can read our review, which awarded the game with a 9.5 out of 10.
